Catheter securement devices

Catheter securement products can replace traditional taping, suturing, and the use of other awkward devices. Following the introduction of a catheter, the securement device is applied and attached to the catheter thus preventing migration of the catheter.

Drain-Guard

Safe anchoring of catheters

Drain-Guard is an anchoring device for percutaneous catheters and tubes that are protruding from the patient's skin in an angle approximately perpendicular to the patient's skin surface. The device consists of a skin-side surface with a super skin friendly adhesive combined with a specially designed foam block that safely anchors catheters from 5 to 16 French. In addition catheters are prevented from being expelled by the body and the secure anchoring of the catheter also prevents catheter movements from enlarging the catheter exit site. This is why less leakage is experienced. The soft foam support block prevents kinking of the catheter, even if the patient should lie on it. A transparent hydrocolloid cover allows continuous monitoring of the puncture site and provides an efficient protection against contamination.

For the sake of the patient

With Drain-Guard, the uncomfortable suturing of the catheter is substituted by the soft and pliable adhesive carrier offering substantially improved comfort to the patient. Because the hydrocolloid has been carefully tested for skin irritation, the risk of allergic reactions is minimal, even if a number of Drain-Guard devices are used consecutively on the same site over many weeks.
Finally, because it is easy to dress over the Drain-Guard and because the patient trusts the anchoring device, he/she will feel a greater freedom to move around without worrying about the catheter.

Easy to use

The Drain-Guard catheter anchoring device is easy to apply to the patient's skin and changing of the device may even be carried out by a family member.

Pleura-Guard

Pleura-Guard is an anchoring device for pleural drainage catheters from 16 French to 30 French. The device consists of a skin-side surface with a super skin friendly hydrocolloid adhesive combined with a specially designed foam block which efficiently prevents kinking of the catheter. A non-woven lid provides an effective securing of the catheter on the foam block. In addition catheters are prevented from being expelled by the body and the secure anchoring of the catheter also prevents catheter movements from enlarging the catheter exit site, which is why less leakage is experienced. The catheter exit site is covered by a transparent hydrocolloid lid protecting the puncture site from contamination while allowing continuous monitoring of the puncture site. The hydrocolloid used for the carrier and the puncture site lid absorbs exudates and thus prevents skin maceration and excessive growth of micro-organisms.

Finally, the use of suture for anchoring of the catheter may be omitted in most cases and the slim design of the Pleura-guard allows the anchoring of two catheters positioned at a short distance.

Patient friendly fixation

The low and slim design of the Pleura-Guard often replaces bulky “home-made” fixations of gauze combined with non-woven dressings or the like. Further, the possibility of omitting the suture makes the Pleura-Guard more comfortable for the patient and the safe anchoring enhances the patient’s feeling of greater freedom to move around without worrying about the catheter. For additional patient comfort the products is made to tolerate washing of the patient and even showering cautiously. Recuces Nursing time and Dressing changes
The effective absorption of exudates combined with secure anchoring and the possibility to monitor the puncture site area strongly reduce the need for dressing changes. The Pleura-Guard will normally stay well on the patient 4 – 5 days and often even up to seven days if required. The few dressing changes and consequent reduction of nursing time per catheter makes Pleura-Guard a very cost effective solution.

Easy to use

The Pleura-Guard is easy and fast to apply to the patient’s skin and results in a standardized and safe anchoring and protection of the pleural drainage catheter, independently of which hospital staff member is responsible for the anchoring of the catheter.

EPI-Guard

Safe anchoring of catheters

Epi-Guard is an anchoring device for epidural catheters. The device consists of a skin-side surface with a super skin friendly adhesive combined with a specially designed foam block that safely anchors epidural catheters. The hydrocolloid carrier will absorb body fluids or anaesthetic agent that backflow from the needle punctures with local anaesthesia given prior to insertion of the epidural catheter. The soft foam support block prevents kinking of the catheter, even if the patient should lie on it.

For the sake of the patient

Epidural catheters are typically secured inadequately by PU-film or other adhesive dressing and accidental displacement of the catheter is frequently seen. Not only will this cause the patient to experience a period without sufficent anaesthesia, but a very uncomfortable insertion of a new catheter is also required. When Epi-Guard is being used, accidental displacement of the epidural catheter will be very rare. Because the hydrocolloid carrier has been carefully tested for skin irritation, the risk of skin reactions is minimal. Finally, because it is easy to dress over the Epi-Guard and because the patient trusts the anchoring device, he/she will feel a greater freedom to move around without worrying about the catheter.
