These injuries can have serious consequences, including the transmission of bloodborne diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 2 million healthcare workers experience needlestick injuries every year, highlighting the urgent need for prevention measures.

ISIPS, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sharps injury prevention, has been at the forefront of advocating for the use of safety syringes. These devices are designed with features that prevent accidental needlestick injuries, such as retractable needles and needle shields.
