Safety Pen Needle

Safety Pen Needle

Pen needles are needles that are attached to a prefilled pen so that you can inject medication, such as insulin, from a pen-like device.   Unlike standard pen needles, where both the outer and inner covers need to be removed, the safety pen needle design ensures that you won’t accidentally poke yourself with a needle.  It also protects others from an accidental needlestick.

DropSafe has a unique and proprietary built-in sharps injury prevention feature (SIPF). DropSafe was specifically designed to minimize the risk from accidental needlesticks by application of the sharps injury prevention feature.

  • The viewing window enables the user to check if the needle is visible.
  • The shield serves to hide the needle from the patient, both before and after the injection.
  • After use, the needle is automatically locked out (passive mechanism), confirmed by a red lock-out indicator.
What do I need to know about injection technique with DropSafe safety pen needles?

Guidelines suggest refreshing injection technique annually.

  1. Secure the safety pen needle to the pen and prime the pen.
  2. Alternate injection sites to prevent lipohypertrophy and ensure the patient receives the benefit of the full dose.
  3. Firmly inject at a 90° angle or perpendicular to the skin.
  4. Ensure to hold for a full 10 seconds to inject the full dose and prevent medication leakage. Begin the count after the pen has been fully depressed.
  5. The instant the dose is delivered, remove the SPN off the pen injector and discard into a sharps container.
  6. Your great technique has benefitted your patient therapeutically and experientially, while securing your safety.

Passive Safety Needle

Passive Safety Needle

A passive safety needle is a sterile, single-use hypodermic needle with a built-in sharps protection feature. It’s used with a pre-filled syringe for subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.

Passive safety needles are different from active safety needles, which require manual intervention from the user to shield the needle after use. Passive safety needles automatically shield the needle after use, without any intervention. Passive safety features remain in effect before, during, and after use, and do not require activation by healthcare workers. Passive features enhance safety design and are more likely to have a greater impact on prevention.

DropSafe® Sicura™ Passive Safety Needle

The DropSafe Sicura is a sterile, single-use, passive safety injection needle designed to eliminate needlestick injuries and protect against bloodborne pathogens. It is the first fully passive safety needle in North America and is FDA 510k cleared. The Sicura can be used for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections of vaccines and other drugs in combination with a pre-filled syringe.

The Sicura’s passive safety mechanism automatically retracts the needle into the syringe barrel once the medication is delivered. It provides clinicians with confidence in their safety against needlestick injuries and bloodborne pathogen exposure.

Wound Irrigation

Safety Product Category

Wound Irrigation

Wound Irrigation

Wound irrigation has typically been accomplished with a syringe and a hypodermic needle to generate the 8-12 psi fluid stream that is recommended for cleaning out wounds. This standard method, unfortunately, also showers the clinician with splashed irrigation fluid that is contaminated with the patient’s blood. This presents an unacceptable exposure to mucocutaneous splashes and the potential of an accidental needlestick from the hypodermic needle. New systems can quickly deliver irrigation solutions that can adequately cleanse the wound without the use of a needle.

Igloo Wound Irrigation System

With dual-exit portals that direct effluent removal away from wounds and a spray head that allows for continuous flow irrigation, the Igloo Wound Irrigation System is designed for convenient, safe wound irrigation.

Safe, Effective Wound Irrigation System

  • Insert tubing into saline bottle to clear away bacteria and necrotic tissue
  • Spray head delivers continuous, high-volume irrigation between 8-12 psi without the need to refill a syringe
  • Protects from potential back-splash contamination exposure
  • Shield’s dual-exit portals lead water and debris away from wound
  • Does not come with saline
  • Shield available separately; use with any standard luer-lock syringe
  • Sold only to Licensed Medical Professionals

ETHIGUARD* Blunt Point Needles

Protect yourself and your patients—without compromising performance
Better protection from needlestick injuries

ETHIGUARD Blunt Point Needle is an innovative solution that helps protect you and your patients from needlestick injuries, providing you with a better needle option.

A solution to a costly problem

  • Over 384,000 healthcare workers in the US suffer needlestick injuries each year, putting them at risk for hepatitis, HIV, and other serious diseases
  • The annual cost of needlestick injuries to hospitals is approximately $258 million
    • The follow-up costs for high-risk exposure needlestick injury is almost $3,000 even if no infection occurs

A 2007 New England Journal of Medicine study report found that 99% of surgical residents had at least one needlestick injury by their final year of training—53% involving high-risk patients

Four prospective randomized trials have demonstrated notable benefits from use of blunt suture needles

ETHIGUARD Blunt Point Needles and conventional taper point needles both have a 12:1 taper ratio

  • Choose protection without compromising performance
  • Decrease the incidence of injury
  • Blunt-point geometry allows for easy soft-tissue penetration
  • Minimize bleeding and tissue trauma

ETHIGUARD Blunt Point Needle does not cause any more additional bleeding or patient trauma than a conventional taper needle

Its heat-treated, stainless steel alloy delivers optimal strength and ductility to resist bending and breaking

Use with ease

  • ETHIGUARD Blunt Point Needle is proven to be effective and user-friendly
  • Increase precision
    • A ribbed and flattened body affords stability in the needle holder, for improved protection against slipping

“Though cost is often cited as a factor for not using safer devices, it is actually a savings when you consider the cost of treating the individual once a [needlestick] injury occurs.”

The value you need with the protection they deserve.

The adhesive material in DERMABOND® forms a strong microbial shield to protect wounds while they heal.

DERMABOND® wears off naturally during the healing process, which is usually completed within 7 to 10 days.

While you will not need an appointment to remove stitches, your doctor may want to check on your progress. Remember: only your doctor or other trained clinical professional can apply DERMABOND®.

Would you like to see a video on how Dermabond works. Click here.

DERMABOND® is ideal for:

  • Wounds in areas where skin is not being stretched or pulled.
  • Exterior, hair-free areas of the skin and areas not inside the mouth.
  • The face, but not too close to the eyes.

With Dermabond, a laceration does not need to be poked with a needle to numb the area. TheDermabond seals the wound better, making infection less likely. The scar is smaller than with sutures.

And it saves time. It takes a fraction of the time to apply compared with sutures. Sutures also require an extra visit to remove them-Dermabond does not.

Vial Adapters

Safety Product Category

Vial Adapters

Vial Adapters

The standard method of withdrawing fluid from a medicine vial unnecessarily exposes healthcare workers to needlestick injuries. This is typically done by pushing a needle into the rubber stopper of the vial and turning the vial upside. Air is injected into the vial. The syringe plunger is withdrawn pulling medicine into the syringe. After removing any unwanted air the syringe is used to make an injection. Newer devices eliminate the needle and allow withdrawal of medicine directly into the syringe without exposing healthcare workers to needlestick injuries.

Using a needle to withdraw medication from vials unnecessarily exposes healthcare workers to needlestick injuries!

Luer Lock Adapters

The Baxa Luer Lock Adapters with Spike are used for the reconstitution and aspiration of drugs in vials. This single-use product comes sterile and non-pyrogenic.
